Hey guys! Welcome back. I hope everyone had a great week. As slow as the days seem sometimes, the weeks have just been flying by!
Here’s my first post about my pride and joy, my number #1 (sorry hubby!)… my camper trailer. I’ve wanted a camper since I was a little girl, but with my dad being military and us moving around quite a bit – it just wasn’t in the cards for us.
We bought a 2015 Heartland Trailrunner back in 2017. We were on the hunt for a bunkhouse, something that could sleep AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE. My husband is one of six and with five siblings, comes many nieces and nephews. It was very important to us that we could take them with us anytime they want to tag along and keep my little guys company.
I searched high and low, looked at Craigslist several times a day, Facebook marketplace was targeting me like none other, going to our local RV shows and doing multiple drive-bys at local RV dealerships. One Saturday afternoon, I convinced my husband to tag a long and “just go look” at a bunkhouse that I found online. Two hours later, she was all mine. I couldn’t wait to get her loaded up and ready to take out into the world.
They took a week to fix a couple of things (but with it only being two years old, it was in really good shape!) and clean her up and we picked her up the next weekend. That same night 5 of our 8 nieces and nephews were on their way to Auntie’s house for a sleep over in the driveway. It was a blast!
Now that we are all settled in, I’m ready to fix some of the not-so-cute things inside of the trailer. Since we aren’t planning on living in it full time (or even part time) I promised my husband I wouldn’t get too crazy.
Project number one: surface items. What is with RV manufacturers being behind the times with the colors? Browns and maroons are so 2008 ha! It was time to pull down the hideous chair rail and window valances.
I started with the chair rail. This was a little complicated because I didn’t want to damage the wallpaper behind it. After making the promise to my husband that I wouldn’t spend too much time and money on it, I was trying to salvage what I could. I used just a regular ol’ hairdryer to heat up the border just enough to get it to peel up. If you have to really pull on it, heat it up a little longer. My husband suggested not using a heat gun for this project since I was trying to not damage the wallpaper behind the border. It worked great! I had one small issue where I was pulling a tad too hard and now I have a slight bubble in the wallpaper that is staying in the trailer. It’s in a back corner that is pretty dim so it doesn’t bother me too much.
Next I started messing around with the valances. I didn’t think they bothered me that much, but I had to remove one to get the chair rail off and I was surprised at the difference it made. They were way easier to get off than I originally thought they would be. They are just screwed in, that’s it. There was one screw in all four corners. Just remove those bad boys and you’re officially in business.
Here are a few before and after pics. Who would have known such a tiny little project that took me about two hours could make such a difference!
What do you guys think? Drop a comment below and tell me the crazy easy projects you guys have found that take like no time at all but make such a huge difference in your space.
Until next time my friends <3
